Seven months after breaking ground, the new practice facility and headquarters campus of the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers is starting to take shape in El Segundo.
Located on a 14-acre property just east of the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, the more than $270-million complex is being built for the Chargers by Continental Development Corporation and Mar Ventures, Inc. The property was once a component of Raytheon's sprawling South Bay campus.
Gensler Sports is designing the facility, which is centered on a 145,000-square-foot main building featuring offices, a hospitality club, eSports gaming and content studios, and a 3,100-square-foot media center. Plans also call for three natural grass fields to the east of the building, offering seating for more than 5,000 spectators. Parking for 348 vehicles would be located in an adjoining surface lot.
At the time of its groundbreaking, completion of the Chargers campus is expected in Spring 2024.
While the Chargers may share SoFi Stadium with the Los Angeles Rams, the two NFL teams will not be bunking up in the same practice complex. Earlier this year, Rams owner Stan Kroenke shelled out roughly $150 million to buy the 35-acre site of the Promenade Mall in Warner Center, which is entitled for redevelopment with housing, offices, retail, hotels, and a 10,000-seat entertainment venue.
Continental Development and Mar Ventures, the developers behind the campus, are connected to a number of mixed-use and office developments in the City of El Segundo, including a mixed-use housing development slated for Pacific Coast Highway and a proposed 300,000-square-foot office campus which would rise on Rosecrans Avenue, not far from the Chargers headquarters.
