In Arcadia, construction has commenced for a new hotel just east of the famed Santa Anita Racetrack.
The new project, announced by R.D. Olson Construction, will rise from a property located at 123 W. Huntington Drive. Plans call for a new hotel with 173 guest rooms, as well as a restaurant, a banquet hall, meeting space, and a rooftop bar and lounge overlooking the neighboring racetrack.
The new building, designed by AXIS/GFA, is part adaptive reuse and ground-up construction. An existing three-story office building will be converted into hotel space, while a new six-story tower will be added to the property along its eastern side. The resulting structure will be approximately 138,000 square feet in size.
The look of the Hilton Arcadia is described has echoing the Art Deco design of Santa Anita's main pavilion, with a sleek, curving facade and tall vertical windows which wrap the entire building.
“With almost 100 new hotels built for various national brands, at R.D. Olson Construction we have a deep experience in hospitality construction and are looking forward to bringing great knowledge value to this new Hilton,” said R.D. Olson president Bill Wilhelm in a news release. “We’ve also had much success in past adaptive reuse projects, with close to 250 hospitality renovations completed, so this will be a wonderful addition to our portfolio.”
The project, which is being developed by VG Properties, will also feature interior design work by Atwater Studios.
Completion of the Hilton Arcadia is expected in Summer 2025.
The Hilton is the second hotel in recent years to arrive at the doorstep of the Santa Anita Racetrack. In 2021, a 232-room Le Méridien opened directly across Huntington Drive.
