An upcoming presentation to the Pasadena Design Commission reveals an updated look for a proposed affordable housing complex that would rise from an empty lot just north of Metro's Sierra Madre Villa Station.
The Rose Town Apartments, proposed form San Diego-based CPR Affordable Housing and Community Development, would rise from a property at 170 N. Halstead Street. Plans call for the construction of a six-story building 48 apartments - all of which would be affordable save for one manager's unit.

Shelter Architects remains the architect behind the Rose Town Apartments, which was first presented to the Design Commission in June. As with the prior iteration of the project, plans call for a children's play area, offices for staff, a computer room, and a lounge.
The project, per a staff report to the Commission, has addressed much of the feedback provided at the earlier meeting, has cut its height from seven stories to six, and eliminated a ground-level garage. Likewise, its facade has been simplified, eliminating multi-colored elements and differing window types.

The staff report recommends that the project should be approved.
The project is one of a handful of new developments in the works near Sierra Madre Villa Station, abutting a site at 3452-3488 E. Foothill Boulevard where Mill Creek Development is looking to build a mixed-income apartment complex with more than 200 residential units.
