Well over one year after its ceremonial groundbreaking (and more than a half-year after earth movers first appeared on site), developers Cityview and Stockbridge have officially commenced work on a new multifamily residential complex just south of SpaceX headquarters.
The project, named Apollo, is rising from a site at 12888 S. Crenshaw Boulevard in the City of Gardena. Plans call for the construction of an eight-story building which will feature 265 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments atop podium parking for 250 vehicles.
The apartment complex, which is now being designed by AC Martin, is portrayed in a rendering with a contemporary exterior. The project, besides housing, will also incorporate resident amenities such as a pool deck, a fitness center, and multiple courtyards.
Completion of Apollo is on track to occur in 2025.
The project, which was entitled for development by Blackwood Real Estate, follows the completion of a similar project just north within Hawthorne city limits that features 230 apartments and ground-level commercial uses. That site sold earlier this year to investors who are converting the property to middle-income housing using state funding.
Cityview, which is based in Los Angeles, recently completed similar mixed-use developments in Carthay, and Historic South-Central, and is in the home stretch for a project in Westlake. Additionally, the company announced plans in August 2022 for a 441-unit apartment complex just east of Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester.
