Nearly 10 months after our last visit, the future home of the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers continues to make progress in El Segundo.
The new office complex and training facility, located on a 14-acre property just east of the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, is being built for the Chargers by Continental Development Corporation and Mar Ventures, Inc. The more than $270-million project is rising on land that was once part of Raytheon's South Bay campus.
Gensler Sports is designing the project, which includes a 145,000-square-foot main building that will house offices, a hospitality club, studio facilities, and a 3,100-square-foot media center. At the exterior, plans call for three natural grass fields to the east of the building, with seating for more than 5,000 spectators. Parking for 348 vehicles are to be located in a surface lot.
When the project broke ground in early 2022, completion of the Chargers campus was expected in Spring 2024.
Although the Chargers may share SoFi Stadium with the Los Angeles Rams, the two NFL teams have gone with very different locations for their headquarters facilities. Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been on a buying spree in Warner Center, buying up nearly 100 acres of land off of Topanga canyon Boulevard - including the 35-acre site of the Promenade Mall. A temporary practice facility is already in the planning stages, and mixed-use project with housing and commercial uses similar to that which surrounds SoFi Stadium is expected to follow.
