After more than six months of construction in Pasadena, wood framing is now rising for a new AC Hotel by Marriott at 550 E. Colorado Boulevard.
The project from El Segundo-based developer Welcome Group, Inc., which replaced a surface parking lot will eventually consist of a five-story building featuring 194 guest rooms. Plans also call for 5,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses facing Colorado Boulevard, as well as and a rooftop bar.
Although WATG served as the project's entitlement architect, the website of general contractor R.D. Olson Construction now indicates that AXIS/GFA is serving as the hotel's architect of record. Renderings of the finished product depict a contemporary podium-type structure clad in stone, faux wood, and glass.
Completion of the AC Hotel is expected in 2025, per R.D. Olson.
The project will be the latest location for the AC Hotel brand in the Los Angeles area, following a 347-room establishment that opened as part of the Fig + Pico development near the Convention Center in Downtown. Welcome Group has previously developed a similar 180-key AC Hotel in its hometown of El Segundo.
