A proposed development which would bring new apartments to a corner lot located north of the A Line in Hollywood has cleared a key hurdle.

On May 15, the Los Angeles City Council voted to adopt the findings of a sustainable communities environmental assessment for Beverly Hills investor Ilan Gorodezki's proposed multifamily residential building at 5600 W. Franklin Avenue. The proposed project would consist of a new four-story building featuring 41 studio and one-bedroom apartments above parking for 41 vehicles.

Requested entitlements, which have yet to be approved by the Planning Department, include Transit Oriented Communities incentives, granting waivers from certain zoning rules. In exchange, five of the proposed apartments would be set aside as deed-restricted affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.

The SCEA previously identified a 20-month construction period for the project. An exact timeline for the project is currently unclear.

The project site is located one block west of the intersection of Franklin and Western Avenues, where a shuttered gas station has been redeveloped with a larger apartment complex lined with ground-floor retail space. To the south at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue, new affordable housing is taking shape within the historic Hollywood Western Building and on an adjoining property.
