After building thousands of new student dormitories over the past five years, UCLA is now moving to scoop up more off-campus real estate in Westwood.
Per a notice published yesterday by the University of California, UCLA is acquiring a 1940s apartment complex located just southwest of its campus at 901 Levering Avenue. The university's plans for the property are not detailed.
According to Los Angeles city records, the property consists of 42 residential units in an approximately 24,000-square-foot building dating to 1947. The property last traded hands in 2004.
UCLA has been on something a building spree on its campus in recent years, as evidenced by 901 Levering's next-door neighbor - UCLA's 10-story Levering Place housing complex, which includes 216 student beds. An even larger 17-story development with more than 1,100 beds stands on the former site of the University Extension across the street. Farther north, UCLA is also planning 545 beds for lower-income students at 565 Gayley Avenue.
Outside of Westwood, UCLA has also acquired apartments buildings on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles to convert them into student housing.
