In Warner Center, earth movers and heavy equipment are on the move at the future site of the Los Angeles Rams practice facility.
The project, which first hit the news nearly one year ago, replaces a portion of the sprawling parking lots surrounding the shuttered Anthem Blue Cross office tower at 21555 Oxnard Street. The facility is located at the northern side of that site, fronting the intersection of Canoga Avenue and Erwin Street.
Plans presented last year to the Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council indicate that the complex will include modular structures containing offices, a weight room, a locker room, and a media room. Outside, the plans call for two playing fields for practice.
Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been gobbling up large plots of real estate Warner Center since March 2022, when he shelled out $150 million to acquire the site of the Promenade Mall on Topanga Canyon Boulevard. He subsequently purchased the neighboring Anthem Blue Cross property and the 600,000-square-foot Village Mall. Combined, the three sites amount to approximately 100 acres of land.
The temporary practice facility is a prelude to a larger development planned for the surrounding property, which would be centered on a permanent headquarters and practice facility. Kroenke is considering building a mix of residential, commercial and retail uses, as well as new green spaces and community amenities.
The new practice facility is expected to open in advance of the 2024 NFL season.
