A social media post by the Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative reveals renderings for Casa de la Luz, a new affordable housing development proposed just north of Whittier Boulevard in unincorporated East Los Angeles.

The project from non-profit developer Hollywood Community Housing Corp., slated for a property at at 744-754 S. Kern Avenue, would include a total of 95 apartments atop a 60-car garage. With the exception of two market-rate manager's units, the apartments would be reserved for households earning up to 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level. Plans call for 40 units of permanent supportive housing, with on-site services would be provided by The People Concern.

The project has been awarded $34 million in funding to date, including $7 million from the Los Angeles County Development Authority and a $27 million state grant.
