Construction has commenced for an expansion of a senior housing complex in Pasadena.
The project from MorningStar Senior Living, which will rise from a site at 995 S. Fair Oaks Avenue, replaces a small office building and a warehouse with a new five-story structure that will contain 76 units of senior housing atop subterranean parking.
KTGY is designing the project, which was previously presented to the Pasadena Design Commission as a contemporary L-shaped structure. Plans showed a small courtyard near the center of the site, as well as a rear driveway and drop off area which would connect with MorningStar's existing senior housing complex to the north.
The project has been billed as the third and final phase of a larger planned development, dubbed MorningStar Senior Living of Pasadena. The earlier two components of the senior housing complex were completed in 2003 and 2008, and recently underwent a renovation.
Other senior housing developments planned in Pasadena include a project slated for a site a few blocks east on Arroyo Seco Parkway and a proposed complex on the parking lot of the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
