In Westwood, new affordable housing has debuted as the VA Campus.
Earlier this month, the Core Companies held a joint ribbon-cutting and topping off ceremony for the MacArthur Field development, which sits on the VA Medical Center's North Campus. The two buildings, when completed, will create a combined total of 148 new homes for veterans.
Building A, consisting of 74 units, is the first to open. Building B, now under construction next door, is scheduled to make its debut in 2025.
The three-story structures also include amenities such as a community garden, a dog park, gym, walking paths, and a business center.
Funding for the project includes tax credits and bonds provided by the State of California, as well as construction financing from BMO and permanent financing by the California Community Reinvestment Corporation.
The MacArthur Field project is one component of a larger master plan for the North VA Campus from The Veterans Collective which will eventually create 1,200 homes for unhoused veterans to sites along Wilshire Boulevard directly to the west of the 405 Freeway. Hundreds of homes are currently under construction on the campus.
A federal judge recently ruled that the VA should build more than 2,500 units of additional permanent and supportive housing on its campus, beyond what is currently planned. However, that decision has been put on hold by a U.S. appeals court.
