New Philly AME Church of Long Beach and Logos Development have announced plans to redevelop a long-unused site in north Long Beach as affordable housing.
As part of an agreement with the Long Beach Community Investment Company, Logos and New Philly AME could receive up to $700,000 in funding to go toward the adaptive reuse of an empty building at 6380 Orange Avenue. The exclusive negotiation period for the period is to last for a period of 180 days, with possible extensions, to finalize loan terms.
The vacant structure is a former school building, something which would not typically be targeted for an adaptive reuse project of this type. The amount of housing that would be provided is not specified.
"At New Philly AME Church, our mission is to serve those who are struggling," said Rev. Darryl Walker in a news release. "We see tremendous potential in turning a separate, long unused two-story building into quality affordable housing. We look forward to the outcome of the City's vetting process so we can move forward in meeting this critical need."
Logos is working with numerous religious organizations around Los Angeles to redevelop properties with affordable housing, including a site owned by St. Rest Friendship Church in South Los Angeles.
