A presentation to the Pasadena Design Commission reveals an updated look for a proposed senior housing development which would rise on the former site of a a Conrad's restaurant.
The proposed project, slated for a property at 861 E. Walnut Street, comes from an entity affiliated with Dallas, Texas-based developer South Bay Partners. Plans call for the construction of a six-story, approximately 83,000-square-foot building containing 50 assisted living units, 30 memory care units, and basement parking.
In addition to housing, project features would include a lobby, dining areas, activity facilities, a theater, ground level courtyards, and upper floor terraces.
VTBS Architects remains the design firm attached to the project, dubbed Walnut and Lake for its cross-streets. While similar to the vision first presented to the Commission in March 2024, the new project has undergone several changes to its massing and materials, and cut five units from the original plan
"The proposed new building is of a contemporary design with variations in modulations applied throughout and includes a flat roof, a double height base, contemporary ribbon style and
punched window openings, engaged colonnades incorporated into recessed balconies and rooftop canopies, and a combination of plaster, stone veneer, and metal cladding as exterior wall materials," states a staff report.
Approval of concept design review is recommended to the Commission.
Other Los Angeles-area projects from South Bay Partners include a senior housing complex in Warner Center.
