Six months after our last update, steel framing is clearly visible from the runway of Hollywood Burbank Airport, where construction is in full swing for a $1.3-billion replacement terminal.

Under construction since early 2024, the new terminal is rising at the northeast section of the airport, and will consist of a 355,000-square-foot building with 14 passenger gates, shops, restaurants, a ticketing lobby, a new TSA checkpoint, and a new baggage claim area.

The project is intended to replace Hollywood Burbank's existing terminal, which was completed in the 1920s. In addition to modern amenities, the placement of the new construction will provide greater distance from airport runways, but still retain stair access to planes in lieu of jet bridges.

The design-build team, which includes Corgan, Holder, Pankow, TEC, CannonDesign, and Burns & McDonnell, has conceived a building with a swooping roof canopy that extends into facade of the airport's parking structure. The design has been described as evoking a silver screen in a public plaza.
