At a ceremony last week, construction commenced for The Arlington, an affordable housing development on the former site of an oil drilling facility
In Arlington Heights, framing is complete for a new affordable housing complex from developer Thomas Safran & Associates.
The Arlington, which broke ground in mid-2024 at 3300 Washington Boulevard, consists of a four-story building that will feature 84 rental apartments above ground-floor retail space and parking. Half of the apartments are to be reserved as permanent supportive housing.
Project approvals include density bonus incentives, permitting a larger structure than zoning rules would normally allow. As a fully affordable housing development catering to low-income to extremely low-income levels, the project was eligible for incentives.
BSB Design is designing the The Arlington, which is to be clad in brick veneer and include shared amenities such as a fitness center, club rooms, and podium-level courtyards.
Completion of The Arlington, expected on late 2025, required soil remediation due to the site's prior use as an oil drilling facility. This included the removal of 185 cubic yards of soil, with sign offs required from the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.
