When we last dropped by the Tesla Diner in 2024, the electric car maker's stock was being walloped due to disappointing sales results. One year later, the company's stock is once again taking a beating (but for very different reasons). Nonetheless, completion is fast approaching for company's first combination charging station, restaurant, and drive-in theater.
Located at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, the diner is rising on a site formerly improved with a Shakey's restaurant. Plans call for charging equipment for 30 vehicles in the main lot, with additional equipment in a satellite lot to the west.
The two-story diner, designed by Stantec, is the visual centerpiece of the project, and fronts the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Orange Drive. Plans call for outdoor eating space on the rooftop and counter-style seating at ground level. Renderings, and nighttime imagery posted to social media, confirm that the building features decorative lighting in the evening.
Drive-in theater screens are located along the western and northern perimeter of the site, allowing for the projection of films and images.
The new diner is reportedly a prototype for what could be a new form of deluxe Tesla charging stations which, if successful, would be rolled out in other cities across the country. The Los Angeles Times reports that Eric Greenspan is the chef who will run the restaurant.
