The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to enter into an exclusive negotiation agreement with Mercy Housing California for the redevelopment of a property in Marina del Rey, the Department of Beaches and Harbors announced last week.
The proposed project at 4206 Admiralty Way, slated to replace a parking lot, would be the first 100 percent affordable housing development in the unincorporated community. Plans for the two-acre property call for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 120 one, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with 2,250 square feet of retail space. Outside, plans call for a 9,000-square-foot community garden, terraced gathering areas, and upgrades to an existing pedestrian path along the adjacent Oxford Basin.
Plans call for all of the apartments to be rented to moderate-, low-, and very low-income households, with 25 percent to be earmarked for persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Redevelopment of the Admiralty Way site is a result of the Marina del Rey for All initiative, adopted in 2022, which revised the community's affordable housing policy to require that 30 percent of all new homes developed in the area be affordable - double the prior requirement of 15 percent.
“Across L.A. County, we are short 500,000 units of affordable housing,” said L.A. County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, who represents the area and has championed [Marina del Rey] for All. “We have a unique opportunity in Marina del Rey to use land owned by L.A. County to provide a public benefit of affordable housing and access to the Marina for all residents to enjoy. I look forward to robust community engagement to ensure current [Marina del Rey] residents and surrounding communities inform this effort.”
Mercy Housing, in addition to its upcoming Marina del Rey project, is now building a senior affordable housing complex in Downtown Long Beach.
