At its meeting on June 4, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to permit the developers of four projects in Cudahy, Lincoln Heights, East Los Angeles, and Downey to seek more than $200 million in public financing for new affordable housing.

The four project, which would create nearly 500 affordable homes when combined, include:

Cudahy Seniors

Planned by Prima Development at 4610 Santa Ana Avenue, the project calls for the construction of a new four-story complex featuring 140 one- and two-bedroom apartments for older adults. The apartments are to be reserved for households earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income, per a County staff report. Per the staff report, other project elements will include a rooftop terrace deck, a central courtyard, parking facilities, on-site laundry facilities, a community room, and on-site services.

The County has already awarded $10 million for the project following a vote by the Board of Supervisors in 2022. $52.3 million in bond financing is now being allocated toward the project.

Century + Restorative Care Village Phase I

Slated for County-owned land at 1321 and 1381 N. Mission Road in Lincoln Heights, Century Housing Corp.'s Restorative Care Village calls for the construction of a 146-unit housing development, as well as supportive services, at a site located across the street from the Los Angeles General Medical Center Campus. The homes are to be reserved for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.

According to a staff report, $53.2 million in bond financing is being provided for the project.

Casa de la Luz

The Casa de la Luz project, which comes from developer Hollywood Community Housing Corp., would rise at 744 Kern Avenue in unincorporated East Los Angeles. Plans call for the construction of a  95 apartments - including 93 units split between households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level. Other project features include parking, community rooms, and offices for on-site staff.

$45.5 million in bond financing is being approved for the project.

Veteran Commons

The fourth project, Veteran Commons, is a joint venture from Abode Communities and PATH Ventures at the former American Legion Hollydale Post site at 11269 Garfield Avenue in Downey. Plans call for the construction of a 100-unit apartment complex, located not far from a future stop on Metro's Southeast Gateway Line. The apartments would serve households veterans earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income level, as well as families earning between 30 and 60 percent of AMI. Other components of the development include a courtyard, play areas, a roof garden, a community room, laundry facilities, and space for on-site property management.

$44 million in bond financing was approved for the development.
