An office building and parking lot near Metro's 26th Street/Bergamot Station is set to give way to multifamily housing, according to plans recently filed with the City of Santa Monica.

The project from Virginia-based Orr Partners, slated for a property at 1723 Cloverfield Boulevard, calls for the construction of a new eight-story building featuring 330 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above parking for 357 vehicles.

Plans call for 33 units of deed-restricted affordable housing - priced at the very low-, low-, and moderate-income levels - making the project eligible for density bonus incentives, thus allowing it to exceed certain zoning limits.

Tighe Architecture is designing the project, which is described on an outreach website as featuring resident amenities at the ground level and rooftop, as well as publicly-accessible open space and a pedestrian paseo connecting 26th Street and Cloverfield Boulevard.

The project is the second plan for a large-scale apartment building to emerge in recent months near 26th Street/Bergamot Station, following a proposed 357-unit complex a few blocks to the north along 26th Street. The City of Santa Monica is also looking to attract affordable housing development to a large property adjacent to the Metro stop.
