At its November 4 meeting, the Los Angeles City Council voted to adopt land use entitlements to enable the construction of a new hotel in Pico-Union.
Proposed by applicant Da Yuh Development, Inc., the project would replace a shuttered grocery store at 2250-2270 W. Pico Boulevard with two six-story buildings containing 125 hotel rooms above a three-level, 84-car basement garage. Plans also call for amenities and common areas for guests, including a lobby and a small dining area.
Rosemead-based architecture firm JWDA-MS is designing the hotel, which would be bisected by an alley.
Requested entitlements for the project include a general plan amendment and a zone change, both of which were initiated in 2017 via a motion introduced by formerly Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo. After four years of quiet, the item wound up on the agenda of the Los Angeles City Planning Commission earlier this year.
Council approval was required for a zone change and general plan amendment to allow a hotel on the project site.
