After eight years of quiet, stalled plans for a high-rise development are being revived on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip.

On February 4, a virtual meeting is scheduled to review new plans for the property located at 9034 Sunset Boulevard. The site, which is owned by the Charles Company, is slated for the construction of an approximately 378,000-square-foot development featuring 198 residential units, 9,250 square feet of offices, 1,800 square feet of restaurant space, 2,840 square feet of retail space, and subterranean parking for 181 vehicles

According to a project description, 35 of the apartments would be restricted affordable units, potentially making the project eligible for density bonus incentives.

While an exact height for the building is not specified, the prior proposal pitched for the same height - a 22-story, 237-room hotel - was described as a nearly 500,000-square-foot development.

Though larger than the low-slung commercial buildings that it would replace, the proposed apartment building would not look out of place along this segment of the Sunset Strip. A 13-story condo and hotel complex was completed on a neighboring site to the west in 2019, one of several such projects built along the Strip in the past decade.

Charles Company, based in West Hollywood, is also the developer of the Sunset Triangle development, which saw excavation commence in 2021, but has remained an empty dirt pit in the years since. Entitlements for the site have since lapsed.
