The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has green-lit a project which would transform a small commercial building across the street from Exposition Park into housing.

The project from Anat Escher of the entity Martin Dream, LLC, slated for a site at 900 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, calls for the construction of a new six-story building 32 one-bedroom apartments with approximately 10,000 square feet of commercial space and parking for 17 vehicles.

Planning Commission approval was required for the issuance of density bonus incentives permitting a larger building than otherwise allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, five of the apartments are to be set aside for rent as very low- and extremely low-income housing.

KSK Design is the architect for the project, which is shown in a rendering as a contemporary glass-clad building with a rooftop restaurant and amenity deck.

The project would join a handful of similar mixed-use developments which have recently sprouted along the eastern perimeter of Exposition Park, as new investments in the California Science Center, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and additional green space take shape.
