The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has given final approval to a project from Century Housing and Charles R. Drew University which would bring housing, medical research space, and a sports complex to publicly-owned land in Willowbrook.
The CDU Wellness & Education Campus, per a news release from Supervisor Holly Mitchell's office, will include:
- 250 affordable housing units for families, developed by Century Housing;
- 200 affordable student housing units;
- 50 affordable faculty and workforce housing units;
- More than 121,000 square feet of offices, laboratories, and bioscience space;
- A gymnasium and indoor swimming pool;
- A multi-purpose athletic field;
- A 700-space parking structure; and
- A central campus promenade connecting the campus and surrounding community.

Century Housing's contribution to the project will include housing catering to renters earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income level.
Planned for sites along Compton Avenue, 117th Place, and 118th Street, the completed project would consist of five separate buildings, built in multiple phases.
TCA Architects and MJS Landscape Architecture are designing the new construction, while Frederick Fisher and Partners is serving as the master plan architect and Hood Design Studios as master plan landscape architect.
