The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved up to $20.3 million in bond financing for a new affordable housing complex in Claremont.
Whatever money is ultimately awarded will go to non-profit developer Mercy Housing California for the construction of its Mercy Claremont project. Slated for a site at 1364 N. Towne Avenue in the, the project calls for the construction of a three-story building with 74 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as community space, offices for staff, a landscaped garden area, and parking.
Per a staff report, the apartments are to be reserved for households earning between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income level, including veterans and families displaced by the 2025 wildfires.
TCA Architects is designing the contemporary low-rise building.
Mercy Claremont is expected to cost $47.6 million to build. The County previously awarded a $3.4-million grant to the project.
According to a project website, Mercy Housing aims to break ground in Summer 2027 and complete work by Fall 2028.
