The Burbank City Council has picked the team to redevelop a core property in its Civic Center.
At its meeting on October 13, the Council voted to approve Clark Construction and SOM as the design-build team for the project, according to a news release from project manager MOCA Systems. The project is set to rise at 301 E. Olive Avenue, replacing civic parking and existing public buildings near the City's Community Services Building, which will remain in place.
“Burbank has been envisioning a new Central Library since the late 1990s, and we now have alignment around a common vision for its future,” said Burbank library services director Eric P. Lashley. “We want to create a place that supports lifelong learning, creativity and human connection, with spaces designed around how our community will use them. Bringing the Design-Build team on board is an important step toward turning that vision into reality.”
Plans call for an approximately 97,500-square-foot building housing library services, city offices, and other community uses, as well as a 310-car garage and 43,000 square feet of public open space.
The design process for the project will commence this Fall, with construction projected to commence in Summer 2027. The new library and open space are expected to open to the public in Spring 2029.
