In East Hollywood, work has commenced for a new affordable housing complex near Metro's Vermont/Santa Monica Station, per city permit records.

The project from Los Angeles-based developer Uncommon, located at 1023 N. Berendo Street, calls for the construction a six-story building featuring 131 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings with parking for 33 vehicles.

All of the apartments would be reserved for rent by very low-, low-, and moderate-income households, according to city approvals.

JZA Architecture is designing the contemporary low-rise development.

The project is the second residential development Uncommon has pitched for the Berendo Street site. Previously, the Chatsworth-based developer had proposed a predominantly market-rate building which would have featured 69 residential units.

Uncommon, which has several large market-rate developments under its belt, is also working on affordable housing in North Hills and Hollywood.
