In Koreatown, work is largely complete for a new mixed-use development from Jamison Services, Inc. at the intersection of 6th and Harvard.
The Maru apartments, located 549 S. Harvard Boulevard, consists of a seven-story building featuring 150 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments atop 12,900 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Parking for 192 vehicles is provided in two basement levels.
Project approvals included Transit Oriented Communities incentives, thereby permitting a larger structure than would otherwise be allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, 15 of the new apartments are to be set aside for rent as deed-restricted affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.
Advertised rents for the market rate units current range between $2,080 and $3,552 per month.
Next Architecture designed the contemporary podium-type building, which has a U-shaped footprint above its second floor, wrapping an elevated courtyard.
Jamison Services ranks among the largest commercial property owners in the City of Los Angeles, and recently completed the two-tower Opus apartments a short walk to the east at 3545 Wilshire Boulevard.
