A stretch of commercial buildings just east of the 110 Freeway in South Park is up for redevelopment, per an application submitted in October to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
Eleos, a Los Angeles-based firm specializing in affordable housing, is seeking approvals through Executive Directive 1 for a new project located at 5001 S. Broadway. Plans call for the construction of a new seven-story edifice which would feature 187 apartments above ground-floor commercial space.
Plans show a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments are proposed, all of which would be restricted to moderate- and low-income households, outside of a lone manager's unit.
Architectural plans indicate 5001 Broadway would include 23 parking spaces at-grade and a rooftop amenity deck for residents. Elevation plans show a contemporary low-rise structure.
The project is one of a handful of new affordable and supportive housing developments in the South Park area, coming on the heels of Hope on Broadway, a modular development completed earlier this year at 5138 S. Broadway.
Eleos is planning nearly a dozen affordable housing projects across the City of Los Angeles, according to the firm's website. That total includes a 42-unit building now rising on Soto Street in Boyle Heights.
