After completing the increasingly difficult task of securing a construction loan, Intracorp Homes is set to break ground on a mixed-use apartment complex at the former site of Torrance staple Gable House Bowl.

The Gable House Apartments, planned for a roughly 3.8-acre site at 22501 Hawthorne Boulevard, calls for the construction of a new building featuring 218 studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings - including 17 affordable units - as well as 12,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 460-car garage.

“In an inflationary environment of increased interest rates and rising development costs has made the process difficult.” said Intracorp Homes Southern California president Brad Perozzi in a news release. “We are grateful that our strong relationship with [lender Bentall Green Oak] has provided us the ability to move forward with this project for the Torrance community.”

VTBS Architects is designing the five-story Gable House redevelopment, which draws inspiration from the post-modern gables of the former bowling alley. In addition to housing, the complex would include amenities such as a fitness center, a swimming pool, co-working space, and other outdoor decks.

The first move-ins to the apartments are expected in Summer 2026.

Other recent Intracorp projects include new townhomes now in Tustin, and the potential redevelopment of a 3.6-acre site in Bellevue, Washington.
