An empty lot just north of Wilshire Boulevard in Windsor Square is now approved for the construction of multifamily housing, per a notice issued in late July by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The property, located at 544-550 S. Wilton Place, is set for the construction of a seven-story edifice featuring 29 two, three-, and four-bedroom apartments above ground-floor parking for 45 vehicles.
Approved plans relied on Transit Oriented Communities incentives to permit a larger building than otherwise allowed by zoning rules. In exchange for the bonuses, three of the new apartments will be set aside as deed-restricted affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.
Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing 550 Wilton, which is depicted in renderings as a contemporary podium-type building, Plans show amenities including a recreation room, private balconies, and a rooftop deck.
Construction is expected to commence in early 2023, says Tsai via e-mail.
City records list the project applicant as Beverly Hills-based firm Surco Holdings, which is also working on Tsai on plans for a smaller housing development at 570 N. Normandie Avenue in East Hollywood.
