A late 1950s church located just west of the Rio Hondo could make way for new townhomes, per an initial study published by the City of Downey.
The developer of the project, Seal Beach-based Olson Homes, is seeking city approvals for to clear the roughly 1.29-acre property for the construction of 33 townhome-style condominiums. Plans call for three-bedroom dwellings, ranging from approximately 1,200 to 1,800 square feet in size, with a total of 71 parking spaces.
Requested entitlements would include density bonus incentives permitting more housing than otherwise allowed by base zoning rules. In exchange, three of the new homes would be set aside for purchase by moderate-income households.
Plans depict the project as a series of Spanish-style buildings with stucco exteriors and tile rooftops.
According to the environmental report, construction of the Foster Bridge development would occur over a roughly 12-month period, commencing as early as 2024.
Olson Homes, in addition to its new Downey project, has also developed for-sale homes in Gardena, Compton, and West Carson.
