In Exposition Park, the small commercial building that was once housed Alex Fish Market is no more, as SoLa Impact begins work on its latest South L.A. affordable housing complex.
The project, which recently broke ground on a corner lot located at 1451 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, will consist of a five-story building featuring 50 one-bedroom apartments atop a community room at ground level.
The project, as a fully affordable development, was eligible for Transit Oriented Communities development incentives permitting a larger building than otherwise allowed. Additionally, SoLa Impact obtained approvals to build the apartment complex without parking.
EDDG, Inc. is designing the project, which is depicted as a contemporary low-rise structure in a rendering. In addition to housing, the apartment complex will be flanked by rear and side yards.
The developer, SoLa Impact, has numerous affordable housing developments planned or under construction across neighborhoods in South Los Angeles. The company has emerged as a prolific investor and builder by using Opportunity Zone funds, accruing a portfolio of more than 1,500 residential units.
