The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has upheld the approval of a proposed multifamily residential development at 446 Shatto Place in Koreatown, rejecting an appeal which sought to block the project's construction.
Earlier this year, the Planning Department approved the project from Steve Hong of Shatto Properties, LLC, which calls for redeveloping an existing surface parking lot with a new seven-story building featuring 60 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above semi-subterranean parking for 40 vehicles.
Project approvals include Transit Oriented Communities incentives, which allow for the construction of a larger building than would normally allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, seven of the new apartments would be set aside as deed-restricted affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.
Andmore Partners is designing 446 Shatto, which would front Shatto Place with a metal exterior.
The proposed project sits a short walk north from a site at 550 Shatto Place where the City Planning Commission recently authorized the construction of a larger eight-story, 318-unit mixed-use apartment complex.
