A few blocks from Metro's North Hollywood Station, a mid-century apartment has given way to the construction of a larger multifamily residential development, according to permits issued by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
The project at 5110 N. Bakman Avenue, approved by the Planning Department in 2022, comes from applicant and owner Nir Paz. Plans call for a new six-story building featuring 65 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above basement parking for 49 vehicles.
Project entitlements include Transit Oriented Communities incentives to permit a larger building than allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, 14 apartments are to be reserved as affordable housing at the low-, very low-, and extremely low-income levels.
Amit Apel Design is listed as the architect behind the contemporary podium-type building, which is shown in a rendering with a contemporary exterior of red, white, and blue.
The project site is located down the street from an affordable housing development completed earlier this year on a property at 5050 N. Bakman Avenue.
