Construction is complete for a $65-million student housing complex at Cal State University Northridge, C.W. Driver Companies announced this week.
Joshua Tree Hall and Hibiscus Hall, built at the northeast corner of the CSUN campus at Lassen Street and Zelzah Avenue, are a pair of four-story structures which feature a combined 198 beds in dual-occupancy rooms, as well as administrative offices, community rooms, and other multipurpose spaces.
“The demand for student housing is high for universities across California.” said C.W. Driver executive John Kately in a news release. “It was a pleasure to collaborate with CSUN to deliver two robust housing facilities that tailor to the needs of all students.”
The buildings, which are connected to other on-campus housing offices and food services through a shared courtyard, are billed as the first approved affordable housing development within the Cal State University system.
AC Martin designed the new student housing, which features residences on upper levels and administrative functions below.
Construction for the buildings, funded by a $37.5-million affordable housing grant from the California Higher Education Housing Grant program, commenced in 2023.
Other off-campus housing projects serving students have also opened in recent years along the western and southern perimeters of the CSUN campus, including the Ensemble development on Reseda Boulevard and a 146-unit apartment building on Nordhoff Street.
