A vacant lot in Chesterfield Square is slated to be the latest affordable housing development from Los Angeles-based Abode Communities.
In late January, an entity associated with Abode submitted an application to the Department of City Planning seeking approvals to build a four-story, 60-unit development on a site at 5407 S. Western Avenue.
According to plans included with the entitlement application, the apartments would be divided between traditional income-restricted affordable housing and permanent supportive housing. That makes the project eligible for streamlined entitlements through the Mayor's Executive Directive 1.
Plans indicate that the proposed development, dubbed "The Carlton," would include a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings, as well as at-grade parking for 20 vehicles.
Abode Communities, one of the most prolific developers of affordable housing in Los Angeles County, is currently working on projects in Glendale, Harbor City, and Broadway-Manchester, among other locations. The developer is also partnering with AvalonBay Communities on larger redevelopment projects such as that of the West Los Angeles Civic Center and part of the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin.
