A city-owned property in Long Beach is slated for the construction of affordable housing, according to an item recently reviewed by the Site Plan Review Committee.
The property at 1850-1862 Atlantic Avenue was to be redeveloped with a workforce development center by Centro CHA, which stepped away from the project in 2024 due to rising costs. In 2025, Long Beach officials subsequently opted to demolish the structure, which was damaged by a fire following Central CHA's relocation.
The now vacant property is poised for the construction of a six-story, approximately 54,000-square-foot development which would include 55 units of affordable housing atop a community benefit space and parking for six vehicles.
With the exception of a single market-rate manager's unit, the apartments would be restricted to very low- and extremely low-income households.
Additional details regarding the project were not included in the site plan review summary.
The project site is located a short distance north of Pacific Coast Highway, and a short walk to the west of a 67-unit senior affordable housing complex from Mercy Housing California which debuted in 2024.
