At a ceremony on September 18, Long Beach city officials and developer Mercy Housing California announced the completion of a new affordable housing complex at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Heritage Gardens, located at 901-941 E. Pacific Coast Highway is a four-story building featuring 67 apartments for very low-income adults aged 55 and up, as well as senior veterans. Residents are provided with on-site health and wellness services, as well as financial literacy, art, and cooking programs
“This new project in Central Long Beach underscores the City’s strong commitment to creating and preserving affordable housing options for all residents,” said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson. “Heritage Gardens is another great development that will provide permanent homes and services to help ensure the security, dignity and wellbeing of our older adults and senior veterans.”

Studio One Eleven designed the project, which was previously described in a city staff report as blending Art Deco and Streamline Moderne architecture. On-site amenities include a podium-level courtyard, a community room, and a common laundry facility. The building is adorned with artwork by Andrea James and Roshi.
Mercy Housing's other recent Los Angeles-area developments include new projects in Downtown, Reseda, Chatsworth, and Sherman Oaks.
