Near the eastern boundary of Pasadena, a two-story office building is set to be transformed into housing, according to plans recently considered by the City's Design Commission.
The proposed project from Elysian Housing, slated for a site at 600 N. Rosemead Boulevard, calls for converting the existing 42,518-square-foot building into a 52-unit apartment building. Additionally, a parking structure to the south of the existing building would give way to a new five-story, 81-unit apartment complex. Parking would be provided for 55 vehicles between the two buildings.
Plans call for a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, all of which would be set aside for low- and moderate-income renters save for two on-site manager's units.
FSY Architects is designing is designing the project, which would alter the existing 1966 building with new operable windows and open spaces to serve residents. The new construction is shown in plans as a contemporary podium-type building, clad in stucco.
The presentation to the Design Commission was for a preliminary review, and a permanent approval of the design is not to occur until a later date.
Elysian Housing is also planning a large affordable housing complex in the Warner Center neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles.
