A corner lot two blocks south of MacArthur Park in Westlake is set for redevelopment with affordable housing via the Mayor's Executive Directive 1.

The proposed project from Yu Kon Kim of Compound Development, slated to replace two homes at 2323-2327 W. James M. Wood Boulevard, calls for the construction of a new seven-story building featuring 150 studio, one-, two-, and four-bedroom apartments without on-site parking.

With the exception of one manager's unit, all of the apartments would be reserved for low- and moderate-income households, making the project eligible for density bonus incentives granting additional concessions from zoning rules.

Commun is designing the building, which is depicted in a rendering as a contemporary podium-type building clad in stucco and corrugated metal panels. Plans show a central courtyard and a podium-level amenity deck for use by residents.

The proposed project is one of numerous podium-type apartment buildings slated for sites near MacArthur Park, joining plans for a larger mixed-use development which would rise one block to the north at the intersection of 8th Street and Park View Avenue.
