Category Company is changing up its plans for a site just north of the US-101 Freeway in East Hollywood, according to an application recently filed with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The Los Angeles-based developer is now considering an Executive Directive 1 affordable housing complex for a currently-vacant site at 511 N. Hoover Street. Plans call for the construction of a new six-story edifice featuring 145 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above parking for 38 vehicles.
Requested approvals include density bonus incentives to permit a larger structure than zoning rules would otherwise allow. Save for a market-rate manager's unit, the apartments are to be reserved for rent by moderate-, low-, and very low-income households.
Category is also designing the proposed project, which is shown in plans as a contemporary low-rise structure with a central courtyard and a rooftop deck.
The project is significantly larger in scale to what Category secured approvals for on the same property in 2021. That project, which is still approved, calls for the construction of a six-story, 40-unit apartment building.
