A notice circulated by the City of Hawthorne reveals plans for an affordable housing complex near the intersection of Rosecrans And Prairie Avenues.
The project, which is being developed by Abode Communities, would rise from a vacant lot next door to New Journey Ministries Church along Cordary Avenue to the south of Jim Thorpe Park. Plans call for the construction of a five-story building featuring a total of 94 apartments.
According to a document published by the City, the total cost of the proect was estimated at $56.7 million in 2024. The building is to serve renters earning up to 80 percent of the area median income level.
A community meeting to discuss the project was convened earlier this year. A rendering depicted on the flyer depicts the complex as a contemporary low-rise structure.
Other upcoming developments from Abode Communities includes a proposed mixed-use complex on a Metro-owned property at Wilshire and Crenshaw Boulevards.
