In Echo Park, construction is in the home stretch for a new permanent supportive housing complex from SRO Housing Corp.
Located at 707-721 N. Alvarado Street, the Alvarado Kent development consists of a six-story building that will feature 81 apartments - 80 of which would be studio units set aside for low-income households - above parking for 32 vehicles. Other components of the project include a community kitchen, a lounge, a computer room, laundry facilities, and on-site supportive services.
Egan Simon Architecture is designing the podium-type building, which has a white and blue exterior and includes multiple outdoor decks.
Per a landing page on the SRO Housing website, the Alvarado Kent project will cater to chronic homeless persons with mental illnesses, homeless veterans earning 30 percent or less than the area median income level, and general low-income persons earning 60 percent or less than the area median income level.
Other recent projects from SRO Housing include the Ingraham Apartments and the Hartford Villa Apartments - a pair of permanent supportive housing projects located just west of Downtown Los Angeles in the Westlake community.
