An events venue on the outskirts of Chinatown, is slated to make way for a mixed-use residential development.

The Los Angeles Department of City Planning recently issued an environmental notice for the proposed redevelopment, which would be rise near the 110 Freeway at 718 N. Figueroa Street. Indra & Company, the owner of the property, has proposed the new construction of a seven-story building featuring 77 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments with approximately 10,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking for 53 vehicles.

The proposed project would include eight units of affordable housing at the extremely low-income level, which would be granted in exchange for Transit Oriented Communities incentives permitting a larger structure than otherwise allowed by zoning rules.

LOHA is designing the proposed development, which would retain the exterior of the existing Kim Sing Theatre as its ground floor facade. A rendering shows a modulated design for the project, with upper level terraces creating private and common decks for residents.

The project site sits to the north of Sunset Boulevard, and across the 110 Freeway from a property where former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt is looking to build a 170-unit apartment complex.
