Within the past 15 years, Cedars-Sinai has grown within the footprint of its main medical campus in Beverly Grove, adding the 11-story Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion on San Vicente Boulevard in 2013, and securing approvals for a new patient tower fronting Beverly Boulevard in 2022. With a recent acquisition, the hospital could soon look eastward for future growth.

Last week, Cedars-Sinai announced that it has acquired the Beverly Connection shopping center located one block east of the main hospital at 100 N. La Cienega Boulevard. Cedars reportedly paid $270 million for the approximately 340,000-square-foot complex.

“The strategic acquisition of the Beverly Connection will provide long-term options for Cedars-Sinai to revitalize our medical campus and provide the most advanced care to our patients and the community well into the next century,” said Cedars-Sinai president and chief executive officer Peter L. Slavin, MD in a statement.

No changes to the 10-acre property are planned in the near future, according to the news release. Current tenants include Target, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross.

The sale comes at a time when the Beverly Connection has experienced financial difficulties. Weho Online reports that the seller, Ashkenazy Acquisition, had secured an extension of $175-million in debt tied to the property, which matures in July 2026.

Cedars is required to either seismically retrofit or replace some of its existing facilities due to the Alfred E. Alquist Hospital Facilities Seismic Safety Act, a 1983 state law which requires that all of California's acute care hospitals should be able to withstand a major earthquake by the year 2030.
