The Los Angeles City Council has upheld the approval of a proposed multifamily residential development in Reseda, rejecting an appeal which sought to halt the project's construction.
Slated for a property at 18430-18434 W. Vanowen Street, the project from TriStar Realty Group would consist of a seven-story building featuring 95 one- and two-bedroom apartments above parking for 102 vehicles.
The planned size and scale of the project requires density bonus incentives which would permit a larger structure than allowed by zoning rules. Those incentives were approved last year by the City Planning Commission, in exchange for the provision of 11 units of very low-income affordable housing.
Architect Alan Boivin is designing the contemporary low-rise structure.
Subsequent to the Planning Commission's approval of the Vanowen Street project, the project was the subject of an appeal by the Supporters Alliance for Environmental Responsibility (SAFER), an affiliate of LIUNA, which urged the City Council to overturn entitlements based on purported unstudied environmental impacts. A staff report recommended denial of the appeal.
In addition to its Reseda development, TriStar is also planning an eldercare facility planned along Ventura Boulevard.
