The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has voted to approve a Chicago-based developers proposal for new apartments near the I-10 Freeway in Mid-City.
CityPads, the applicant behind the project at 8931-8945 Helms Place, has secured approvals for the construction of a new five-story building featuring 78 studio and one-bedroom apartments with parking for 17 vehicles.
The Planning Commission signed off on density bonus incentives requested by CityPads, which will permit a larger structure than normally allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, 12 of the apartments are to be set aside for rent as extremely low- and very low-income affordable housing.
The Albert Group Architects is designing the contemporary low-rise structure, which would include amenities such as a rooftop deck and co-working space.
At the time the project was announced in May 2024, CityPads indicated that it had plans for future developments in West Los Angeles, Culver City, and other nearby neighborhoods.
In Chicago, CityPads has secured financing to build a 132-unit apartment complex on a site near the North/Clyborn CTA Station.
