At the intersection of Ramona Boulevard and Tyler Avenue in El Monte, completion nears for a new affordable housing complex from Domus Development.

The Metro Point apartments, which stand on what was previously a vacant city-owned lot at 11016 Ramona Boulevard, consists of a four-story building that will feature 50 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above 80 parking stalls when completed.

According to a landing page on the website Domus partner company Newport Partners, the apartments are to be reserved for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.

Nearly half of the units would be reserved for homeless households where at least one person is living with a severe mental illness.

Funding for the project includes $15 million on bond proceeds approved by Los Angeles County, as well as $5.5 million in No Place Like Home Funds, a $1.1-million Infill Infrastructure Grant, and $5.7-million in state Multifamily Housing Program funds.

The project follows two similar affordable housing developments built a short distance north next to El Monte's Metrolink station.
