Bridge Housing has completed move-ins at a pair of affordable housing developments located at the busy intersection of Vermont and Manchester Avenues in South Los Angeles.
The two buildings, named Luminus and Vista, total 180 residential units, are part of the Los Angeles County-led Evermont development. The County took control of the site in 2018 through eminent domain, after plans from property developer Eli Sasson for a shopping center on the site failed to come to fruition. The more than four-acre site had remained vacant since prior structures were destroyed in the 1992 riots.
“Evermont is a symbol of what is possible when we come together and deliver on our promises,” said Bridge Housing President and chief executive officer Ken Lombard. “Bridge and our partners are committed to continuing to serve communities across South LA through innovative solutions that support residents and offer safe, affordable housing for generations to come.”
Luminus, the larger of the two buildings, includes 118 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for families, while Vista accounts for 62 units of permanent supportive housing catering to seniors.
Evermont also includes a new transit plaza, parking structure, Metro training facility, as the public boarding school SEED LA. Ground-floor retail space is being developed by Primestor, and is slated to open later this year.
TCA Architects designed the new housing, joining a team that also included the Coalition for Responsible Community Development, Walter Consultants, and Suffolk.
Bridge Housing is also part of the team redeveloping the Jordan Downs public housing complex in Watts. That venture costs $1 billion and will include more than 1,500 homes when completed.
